New cover for the children’s Sunday School Altar.

Special thanks to Karen Morgan for the love and devotion she put into creating this for the children.

Very simply, all you have to do is to think away the thoughts you want to destroy, by replacing them with constructive thoughts. This is the key to heaven; it is in your hands.

Relocation Update
The Kansas City Meditation Group of SRF continues its search for a new location! After coming very close to purchasing the property at 4505 Gibbs Road in Kansas City, KS, we discovered too many issues in the inspection to justify moving forward with the purchase.
We would like to thank all the devotees who gave so tirelessly of their time to assist in the process of evaluating the property and working through the legal and financial requirements that were necessary.

As a result of this process several positive developments have occurred. Firstly, we all worked together harmoniously, and discovered that we have many devotees who are talented and willing to pitch in. We learned a lot about what is required in the purchase of a property, so that when we do find a property for purchase in the future we will be ready. We were also able to incorporate, which provides us with a number of important legal rights, abilities and protections.

Incorporation
The Kansas City Meditation Group is now a non-profit corporation. Being a non-profit corporation protects both members and officers against any kind of legal action, and allows us to sign a legal contract such as a lease. Incorporating the group was done in conversation and consultation with the Mother Center as well as their Legal Department.

On Sunday June 7, the new bylaws for Kansas City Meditation Group, Inc were approved by the members at a General Business Meeting. There were 23 members in attendance out of 34 members eligible to vote. This represented the quorum that was needed. (68%).
To be a voting member you must be a lesson student (either in process or have completed up to 162) or a Kriyaban member and attend an average of one Service per week.  Minutes of the meeting and a copy of the bylaws can be found on Web site kcmeditation.com in the member area. The password is “mukunda.” If you do not have Internet access, please contact a member of the Managing Council.

We thank all who were involved in this important step for our group. We look forward to finding a new rental or purchase location in the not too distant future.

Building Fund
We all very much appreciate the blessing of meeting at the Pilgrim Chapel. At the same time, the group consensus seems to be that it is time to have our own location so that we can reduce the time and coordination needed in preparing for Services and arranging locations for special events. For this reason we are putting increasing importance on our building fund which will allow us to save funds to lease, purchase or to build a building for the group. To make a donation to the building fund, simply mark your donation check “building fund” and your funds will be placed in a separate account for this purpose.

Through the generosity of a donor, donations will be matched 50 cents on every dollar to a maximum of $10,000 over three years. For more information please speak with group Treasurer Michelle Wolf.

Although life seems capricious, uncertain, and full of all kinds of troubles, still we are always under the guiding, loving protection of God.

Pilgrimage to Rajarsi’s Crypt
On Sunday, May 17, members of the Kansas City Meditation Group had a pilgrimage following Service to visit Rajarsi’s Crypt. The event was inspired by a talk that was given by Brother Satyananda at Glendale Temple in California on the life of Rajarsi Janakananda. Rajarsi was one of Master’s foremost disciples and contributed greatly to the work of SRF during his lifetime. All the devotees found the event very inspiring and we look forward to holding these events again.

Upcoming Special Services
We have several upcoming Commemoration Services.  On Saturday, July 25 from 9 to 11 am we will hold a Commemoration Service in honor of Mahavatar Babaji.  On Thursday, August 13 from 7 to 9 pm we will hold a Janmashtami Service in honor of Bhagavan Krishna. On Sunday, September 27 from 8:30 to 9:30 am we will hold a Commemoration Service in honor of the Mahasamadhi of Lahiri Mahasaya. And on Wednesday, September 30 we will hold a Commemoration Service in honor of the birthday of Lahiri Mahasaya.

Anyone who is well enough acquainted with the SRF teachings to understand the significance of the Guru-disciple relationship is welcome to attend.  These are great spiritual occasions on which the blessings of an illumined master are stronger than on other days of the year. Devotees who attend these ceremonies with the right attitude will reap spiritual benefits and find their high resolutions strengthened.

Scholarship Program
A big thanks to all who have helped with our children’s scholarship program fundraising events to raise money to send our children to the SRF Youth Camp in California this summer. In total we raised $2,200. We have now wrapped up our fundraising efforts and 4 children are on their way to camp! We look forward to hearing about their blessed week.

“The value of silence cannot be understood except through experience.  Daily activities usually keep our attention engaged in outward perceptions, meaningless talk, and the resulting endless thoughts.  Silence focuses the mind on inner stillness and intuitive communion with God.  Your retreat will give you an opportunity to free yourself from the compulsion of making useless conversation with others, so that you may talk silently and inwardly with God.”….Paramahansa Yogananda

Atheneum Auction Sale
On Saturday, April 18, an auction sale was held at the Atheneum. The Atheneum is the location where Master spoke in Kansas City in the 1930s when he met James J. Lynn (Rajarsi Janakananda). Because of the special connection that we have with this location it was felt that it might be nice to purchase something at the sale. A podium that may well have been present when Master spoke at the Atheneum was purchased and will be used by the group in future when we have our own location.

Volunteer Opportunities
T
here are many volunteer opportunities at the Kansas City Meditation Group, including Service Readers, Harmonium Players, Ushers, Flower Committee, Retreat Committee, Social Committee, P.A. System Setup, Sunday School Teachers and Assistants.  If you are interested in serving, please speak to a member of the Managing Council.

Knowing that you are a child of God, make up your mind to be calm no matter what happens. If your mind is fully identified with your activities, you cannot be conscious of the Lord, but if you are calm and receptive to Him within while being active without, you are rightly active.
Paramahansa Yogananda, Where There Is Light

  1. Please enter the Sanctuary during the 15-minute period prior to the top of each hour. After the meditation has begun, one may enter during a chant so as not to disturb the other meditators.
  2. During meditation, practice any SRF technique silently.
  3. Please disable audible beepers and chimes on watches, pagers and cell phones during meditation.
  4. Checks made out to KCMG will be used for local meditation group expenses, while checks made out to SRF will be forwarded to SRF Mother Center.
We are affiliated with Self-Realization Fellowship in Los Angeles, California. Our Guru is Paramahansa Yogananda. The purpose of Self-Realization Fellowship is to disseminate a knowledge of definite scientific techniques for attaining direct personal experience of God. The Fellowship is dedicated to promoting a greater understanding and harmony among the world's various religions by teaching the fundamental principle of religion: how to commune personally with God.
Paramahansa Yogananda has defined Self-realization as follows: "Self-realization is the knowing—in body, mind, and soul—that we are one with the omnipresence of God; that we do not have to pray that it come to us, that we are not merely near it at all times, but that God’s omnipresence is our omnipresence; that we are just as much a part of Him now as we ever will be. All we have to do is improve our knowing.
