“The news of
God-realization spreads by itself. That is why group meetings to
practice the techniques of meditation are vitally important. Group
meetings strengthen the individual Self-realization that one has
acquired in private at home. Group meetings give a new awakening to
members and impel them to seek the group instead of its having to seek
them.” Paramahansa Yogananda, “Seeking God Together”

meditation, and not just to hear a sermon.”

Paramahansa Yogananda’s Birthday
A Commemoration
Service will be held at the Pilgrim Chapel on Saturday, January 5, from
7 to 9 pm. Master’s All-Day Meditation will be held on January
12, 2008 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Club House at Unity Village.
India Night Dinner
Our
annual India Night Dinner will be held on Saturday, February 2nd at the
Lenexa Community Senior Center. This event will serve as the kick-off
for our fundraising for the 2008 Summer Youth Camp Scholarship
Fund.
Spring Retreat
There will not be a spring day retreat held in 2008 as we will be busy with preparations for our Monastic Tour.
Volunteer Opportunities
There are many volunteer opportunities at the Kansas City Meditation
Group, including; Service Readers, Harmonium Players, Ushers, Flower
Committee, Retreat Committee, Social Committee, P.A. System
setup, Sunday School Teachers and Assistants. If you are interested in
serving, please speak to a member of the Managing Council.
New Web Site
We are pleased to announce that the Kansas City Meditation Group has a
new Web site! This project consists of two parts--a public site
and a member site. The public site is designed to make it easier
for newcomers to quickly and easily learn a little more about us.
The member site is password protected and allows you to access
volunteer schedules, read announcements, view photo galleries from our
various events, and have access to important information you will find
useful as a member of the group. If Service is ever cancelled due to
inclement weather we will post information on the site.
You can access the site at www.kcmeditation.com. You can access
the member area by using the access code “mukunda.”
If you have feedback or suggestions on how we can continue to improve
the site, please speak to Wendy MacDonald Savoy or Doug Couch.
Ad Campaign
Tying in to our new Web site project, the Managing Council is proposing
an increased advertising campaign. The Council has been working
closely with Mother Center to develop a campaign that catches attention
with Master's words and appeals to people of different
backgrounds. The program will include a series of ads which each
contain a different headline and quote from Master and then standard
information such as Master's photo, our Sunday Service time, address
and Web address.
We currently advertise in Kansas City Wellness Magazine and
Communiversity and hope to increase the frequency and size of the ads.
(See the sample on the cover.)
Sunday School Teacher’s Workshop
The Sunday School teachers have been newly inspired with lots of
creative ideas for Sunday School classes! Pat Evertz of SRF Youth
Services at Mother Center in California visited our group the weekend
of November 9th. The group enjoyed a wonderful vegetarian dinner
and divine fellowship at Eden Alley on Friday evening and a visit to
the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum on Sunday afternoon following Service.
Saturday afternoon it was down to business. Pat led us in a
workshop where she shared many creative ideas for making our Sunday
School classes more engaging and fun for our students. We tested some
new craft ideas and shared stories and insights we all found
helpful. On Sunday morning it was a joy for the Sunday School
teachers to observe Pat leading our students in class. Each
student made a prayer boat as Master described in the Autobiography
which they then launched in a tub of water. It was truly magical
as we turned off the lights and the only light was from the candles in
each of the prayer boats. We softly chanted “Ever New
Joy.”
Pat wrote to us following the weekend:
“I am still basking in the afterglow of the wonderful weekend I
spent with your group. Everyone was so sweet and loving. You have
an exceptional staff of teachers there. Their love for children and
Master is so apparent, and there is such a spirit of harmony among all
of your committee.
Truly, being with you all was a wonderful inspiration to me, and I feel deeply blessed to have been able to come.”

We are affiliated with Self-Realization
Fellowship in Los Angeles, California. Our Guru is Paramahansa
Yogananda. The purpose of Self-Realization Fellowship is to disseminate
a knowledge of definite scientific techniques for attaining direct
personal experience of God. The Fellowship is dedicated to promoting a
greater understanding and harmony among the world's various religions
by teaching the fundamental principle of religion: how to commune
personally with God. |
Paramahansa Yogananda has defined Self-realization as follows:
"Self-realization is the knowing—in body, mind, and soul—that we are
one with the omnipresence of God; that we do not have to pray that it
come to us, that we are not merely near it at all times, but that God’s
omnipresence is our omnipresence; that we are just as much a part of
Him now as we ever will be. All we have to do is improve our knowing. |
Meditations and services are at Pilgrim
Chapel.
