Br. Lee Visit
Group meditation is a castle that protects the new spiritual aspirants as well as the veteran meditators. Meditating together increases the degree of Self-realization of each member of the group by the law of invisible vibratory exchange of group magnetism.

Volunteering and Fundraising for Upcoming Monastic Tour

Preparations are underway for our upcoming Monastic Tour to be held May 23 to 25, 2008 at Unity Village.  The program will include a public lecture on Friday night, technique reviews on Saturday morning and a Kriya Ceremony on Saturday evening, as well as several other events.  Accommodations and vegetarian meals will be available on-site or you may simply attend the events.  A volunteer organizational meeting will be held this fall and more detailed information will be mailed by November.  If you are interested in volunteering and have not yet been contacted, please speak to Dwayne Savoy or Beth Hanna.

A Monastic Tour fund has been established to help cover the expenses of this visit.  Some of our expected expenses include airfare and accommodations for the Monastics, conference room rental and flowers.  If you would like to make a donation toward these expenses, please mark your check “Monastic Tour Fund” and include it in the Sunday offertory, or mail your check to Kansas City Meditation Group, Attention:  Treasurer, PO Box 7053, Kansas City MO 64113.

Another suggestion from Center Dept. is that members may wish to consider making an additional monthly contribution specifically directed towards the Monastic Tour Fund.  A number of members donating a fairly small amount ($10 per month, for example) over the next several months would go a long way towards defraying the group’s expenses for the monastic visit.

Brahmachari Lee Visit

Thank you to all who helped organize events for our recent visit by Brahmachari Lee.  It was a very special day for all who attended and Brahmachari Lee enjoyed the event as much as we did. The day began with a meditation led in the Chapel by Brahmachari Lee, a Satsanga (question and answer period) and a movie showing historical footage of Master’s trip to India in 1935.  The children also enjoyed a Sunday School class led by Brahmachari Lee.

Children’s Youth Program

Four children from the Kansas City Meditation Group recently returned from the Children’s Summer Youth Program.  Following are excerpts from their thank-you letters to the group:

“Thank you so much for helping me go to camp this year. It really meant a lot to me. I had so much fun and I learned a lot more about Master. I made so many more new friends. I am looking forward to going back next year. Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you.”

“Thank you KCMG for helping me go to camp we had many Brahmacharis. I can’t name them all. Thank you very much...I had a lot of fun at camp. One thing I did enjoy was the mountains. I made lots of friends. I made an om board! It is really neat and I got the om and the hong sau Technique. They help you get calm and relaxed. I am looking forward to coming back next year. The om board is for the om technique.”

“Heavenly Father, we thank thee for this opportunity and this spiritual path for the children of the world. You are always with me every day in every way! Dear God Lay my life before you!! Aum Peace Amen……Thank you so much for paying my airfare and part of my tuition so I could go to camp. I have learned 2 meditation techniques. I have made many new friends. Than you very, very, very much!! Jai Guru.”

Fall Picnic

Our annual picnic will be held on September 29 at the Heartland Retreat Center.  It will include a nature walk and a vegetarian barbeque.  This year’s picnic will begin at 3:00 p.m. and continue until 10:00 p.m.  Every year both children and adults look forward to the walk to the old cemetery and the campfire.  We hope you’ll join us. If you would like to volunteer to help with this event please contact Mary Anne Demeritt.

We become like the people we mingle with, not only through their conversation, but through the silent magnetic vibration that emanates from them. When we come into the range of their magnetism we are affected.

Fall Retreat

Our annual fall retreat will be held October 19-21 at the Heartland Retreat Center. Deadline for registrations is Sunday August 19.  Registrations may be accepted after that date if space is still available.  This silent retreat will include group meditations, kirtans, video viewings, group exercises, and other events, plus plenty of free time, and is a wonderful way to deepen your spiritual practice and get a welcome break from the demands of everyday life.  For more information please contact Nancy Blackman.

Sunday School Teacher’s Workshop

The Sunday School Teachers are looking forward to a special visit from a representative from SRF Youth Services to be held November 9 to 11, 2007.  Pat Evertz will arrive Friday evening, lead a workshop on Saturday and then lead our Sunday school class the following day.  All Sunday School Teachers and anyone considering joining the Sunday School Teachers team as a teacher or assistant are welcome to attend.  Please speak to Donna YaDullah or Michelle Wolf for more information.

New hours at Rajarsi’s Crypt

Rajarsi Janakananda, also known as James J. Lynn, was one of Paramahansa Yogananda’s most advanced disciples. He lived in Kansas City for many years and contributed much to our community as well as to the SRF work.  You may be interested to know that there are now new hours at the cemetery.
The new hours are:
Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm
Saturday 9 am to 4 pm
Sunday 10 am to 2 pm

Whenever the grounds crew is working, the door to the Pantheon building will be left open. On other days such as Sundays simply visit the office to pick up the key.

Saturday Long Meditations

A group of devotees has been meeting informally one Saturday a month for a four-hour meditation.  If you would like more information please contact Randy Wolf or Wendy MacDonald Savoy.

How did you find out about the Kansas City Meditation Group?

We’d like to hear from you.  As we evaluate expenditures such as advertising in Kansas City Wellness Magazine and Communiversity, it helps us to know which methods are effective in reaching new devotees.  Send us an e-mail and tell us how you found out about the Kansas City Meditation Group, and particularly if an advertisement played a role. Did you have a good experience when you first contacted the group on the phone, on the Web or in visiting the Chapel?  Send a note to Michele O’Kelley.

We are affiliated with Self-Realization Fellowship in Los Angeles, California. Our Guru is Paramahansa Yogananda. The purpose of Self-Realization Fellowship is to disseminate a knowledge of definite scientific techniques for attaining direct personal experience of God. The Fellowship is dedicated to promoting a greater understanding and harmony among the world's various religions by teaching the fundamental principle of religion: how to commune personally with God.
Paramahansa Yogananda has defined Self-realization as follows: "Self-realization is the knowing—in body, mind, and soul—that we are one with the omnipresence of God; that we do not have to pray that it come to us, that we are not merely near it at all times, but that God’s omnipresence is our omnipresence; that we are just as much a part of Him now as we ever will be. All we have to do is improve our knowing.
